This month, MPs voted in favour of historic new laws that will effectively stamp out smoking in the UK. By increasing the legal age to buy cigarettes by one year, every year, these laws mean that no one born after January 2009 will ever be able to legally buy them.
This legislation will save lives by preventing incurable disease caused by smoking. And it will save the NHS billions of pounds every year that they spend on smoking-related illness.
The bill still has more stages to go through in parliament, so it is important we keep pushing to protect the nation’s lungs from this deadly addiction.
If you support this legislation, you can write to your local MP now and let them know.
